Chole Island — for something different
Chole is a small island across the bay from Utende, with old ruins, giant fruit bats and a village where life moves slowly. Staying here means boats instead of roads.

Kilindoni — for whale sharks and value
Kilindoni is the island's main town, with the harbour, market, banks and the airstrip. Whale shark trips leave from this coast, so staying here means less travel on whale shark mornings. Guesthouses and hotels here are usually better value than the beach lodges — for example Mafia Dream Hotel in Kilindoni.
